2019 is here.
It’s a new year and another try at it.
Did you make a New Year’s resolution to be a better blogger? To blog more? To finally get that blog off the ground and to start making some money from it? Those are great resolutions, but did you know that most people give up their resolutions by January 12th?
Don’t be one of them.
I have a few tips to help you stay on track and to make 2019 a successful blogging year.
I know you are excited to get your blog going. I know that you want to make your mark on the blogging world. I’ve been there too. I remember posting my first post back in November 2013. Wow, that was five years ago!!!
The truth is, you won’t become an overnight success. It just doesn’t happen that way. Sure, there are a few internet sensations who make it (almost) overnight. But the fact of the matter is, this will take work to create great content, build a following, and to finally monetize your blog.
Make a List
Your post should answer a question that your reader has about your subject or niche.
Sit down and ask yourself, “What are 25 problems that my readers are having in _(your niche) ?”
Then write a blog post that answers one of those 25 problems. Your reader will appreciate a post that helps them answer a question, and it will start to elevate you as an authority in your niche.
This also helps you prioritize your posts so you can post them in a logical order.
Consistency builds a following.
Get a calendar (or you can use a spreadsheet) and write down your topic ideas so that you know what you are going to post and when.
Use your phone (or keep a notebook) to jot down your ideas when you are not at your PC. Then add them to your calendar as potential new topics.
Keep scheduling your content at least four or five weeks in advance.
Don’t let a Minor Set Back Stop You
This is a big one!!
Life happens and sometimes we can’t stick to our schedule. It happens. Family matters, work, and other stuff take priority over our blog.
When something like that happens, don’t let it bother you.
Jump back on the horse, get back on that bike, and keep going. Modify your post schedule and get posting again. You’ll be glad you did.
Don’t Forget Social Media
Schedule tweets about posts with a program such as Hootsuite. They have a free version that you can use but it’s limited to scheduling 30 posts at a time.
Don’t forget Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and Google+ too. These are great places to share your content and they make for some pretty good backlink juice too.
I hope these tips help get 2019 off on the WRITE foot. Blogging is a ton of fun and can be an enjoyable and profitable experience. Just don’t go overboard and try to get it all at once.
Creating a successful blog takes time. As I always say, this is a marathon, not a sprint.
