Content creation seems to be everywhere these days. You can’t go anywhere these days without seeing someone filming themselves. It can feel like content creation belongs to a younger crowd.
I started creating content when I turned 50. I’m 63 now and still enjoy creating stuff. It can be a blog post for my website, or a video for YouTube, or even a pin for Pinterest.
Content creation after 60 probably looks a little different than it does when you’re 25. I’m okay with that.
I just enjoy creating content.
Where It All Started
Thirteen years ago, I started this blog. It’s gone through some major changes, with one of them being a total deletion of my content. Some 300 blog posts deleted. Sent to the netherworld.
So, now I’m rebuilding my blog, post by post. Trying regain my footing with Google.
I have the Dan & Sami images that I use as my featured images and Pinterest pins. They are fun to create and helped me get over our loss of Sami.
Why I keep Doing It
Because I enjoy making something from nothing.
I like experimenting with a blog post, image, video, or Pinterest ideas and seeing where it goes. Does it get likes. Does it get clicks. But most importantly, does it help someone?
Google can be difficult. Your new post gets indexed. Then three weeks later Page is not indexed: Crawled – currently not indexed. It can really be frustrating at times, but I keep on creating.
I deleted hundreds of posts, changed directions, and started over, but still come back to creating. It’s just something that I truly enjoy.
And probably most importantly, at 63 I’m not trying to become the next 25-year-old influencer. I do this because I enjoy the process and want to see what I can build.
What I’m Doing Now
I’m changing direction a little.
Instead of trying to compete with large websites on the same blogging topics, I’m narrowing my focus to what I actually know: creating content, experimenting with it, figuring out what works, and sharing what happens along the way.
No more competing with the big guys on blogging topics. I will never out write them, out SEO them, or gain more followers than them. They are established. They have a team writing for them.
At danswords.com, it’s just me. One person, building the dream.
My YouTube channel covers the next chapter and our upcoming move to The Villages.
My Pinterest page is where I pin all of my pin ideas for my blog posts. There are several different “stories” or “themes” that I’ve used. Most of them are Dan & Sami images
You Don’t Have to Compete With Anyone
If you’re thinking about becoming a content creator after 50, you don’t have to compete with younger creators. You just need something you enjoy talking about and a reason to keep creating.
