I am so thankful for the opportunity that Dan has given me to take a few minutes to introduce my blog to you today. My name is Andrea Joy and I am the owner and creator of www.SavingJoyfully.com a blog to help you learn to save more money and live better on a budget. My blog focuses on encouraging and inspiring you in your journey towards financial freedom, and I will continue to bring you tips and resources to help you stretch your budget.
1. How long have you been blogging?
I actually started www.SavingJoyfully.com in February 2018. I have always wanted to start a blog especially a blog on helping others to save money and get out of debt. I have been writing off and on since I was very young in fact in my high school years I wrote mainly poetry. In 2003 I was thrilled to have a poem of mine published and be paid for it by Decision magazine in their July 2003 edition. My career as a poet only paid $40, I realized although writing was my passion it was not going to pay my bills at this point.
2. Are you a full-time blogger or do you also have another job/career?
I work full time in medical billing for a local healthcare corporation and blog on the side. Blogging is definitely the job I look forward to the most because it allows me to be creative and share what I am most passionate about.
3. What got you started into blogging?
I have actually started a blog twice before and each time the blog did not work out because I lost interest quickly. I decided this year in February 2018 that it was what I wanted to do and for some reason my passion for it this time has been all in. I started listening to a podcast in January 2018 called Problogger that really inspired me to start the blog and give it my all.
4. What is your blog about and how does it help others?
My goal with my blog is to help others make and save more money every month. I am a bargain shopper and great at finding additional ways to bring in extra income. My biggest interests are saving money, and learning to be more frugal, which are two of the things I will touch on most in my blog.
I post frequent weekly postings that will help you to stretch your weekly budget and put away a little extra this year, so hopefully, you can begin to save more for some dreams of yours.
5. What is working for you and your blog? Why?
Twitter has been amazing for my blog it has really brought some great networking opportunities that would not have been possible so quickly without it. I met Dan early on and began following his blog and his Featured Writer Friday post. Being featured today all happened within a few months of joining Twitter and connecting with Dan. Also connecting with other WordPress bloggers has been extremely helpful since I began, it has given me the encouragement to keep going when sometimes my only comment or follower was another WordPress blogger. Let me tell you, other bloggers are the best followers and the best at offering participation because they know what it is like and recognize the value of a comment to a blogger who spends hours creating a post.
6. What did not work out so well for your blog? Why?
Creating a blog on blogger or wordpress.com as a free blog was definitely more of a challenge in the past when I started my previous two blogs. I have found more success creating a self-hosted blog with wordpress.org. I have also found posting more frequently has helped tremendously, and setting a posting schedule has helped a lot.
7. What tools are you using that you can introduce my readers to?
I use specific plugins that I can no longer imagine not using. WordPress has great plugins for everything from adding social media share buttons to your blog, allowing you to set up email subscribers and allow comments, to enabling analytics which helps you to get an idea of how many people visit your website and where they are geographically located. I also couldn’t do without Twitter, Pinterest, StumbleUpon and Facebook, they bring me great engagement and help me to get my blog out there and seen by the audience I am targeting.
8. What piece of advice would you give to someone who is interested in starting a blog?
Ask yourself what are you the most passionate about? This is how I determined my blog’s niche. I could talk for hours to anyone about my passion, however, I knew that my family and friends were not always as interested as I was. This is how I knew that I would have enough content to sustain a blog on this topic. Finally, I would encourage you to be yourself, be flexible, and be consistent. Odds are you have something in your life that applies to others and could help them. Investing time into people is always worth it, and in the end, helps you grow and network. So be patient and don’t give up.
