Why Goldfish Make Better Website Visitors

Why Goldfish Make Better Website Visitors

You have 8 seconds to grab your reader’s attention and keep them on your site. Just 8 seconds. That’s the average time it took you to read these three sentences.

 Just 8 seconds.

Keeping your readers engaged at your site is a never-ending task. The web is full of fly-by readers who read your headline, check out your image, and then move to the next article. (I’m guilty of that myself.)

So, what can you do to keep your readers engaged and reading your content?

First, a couple of fun facts from StatsticBrain.com

 – The average attention span of a person in the year 2023 is 8.25 seconds.

 – The average attention span of a goldfish is 9 seconds.

 – The average attention span of your reader today is just 8 seconds.

Use Catchy Headlines

While developing your post and title, work on a catchy phrase or headline. Something that makes your readers click on the link to get to your site. Use active words like enhance, promote, and engage. Your headlines should pop out and entice your reader to want to read more. If you write an article about attracting visitors, don’t use “How to Attract Visitors to Your Site.” Use an enticing headline like “How to Attract Visitors and Keep Them Coming Back for More.”

Entice Your Readers with Shiny Objects

Use images in your posts. We all know that consumers (and readers) make decisions based on eye appeal. If you don’t want to put graphics in your blog post, then at least use them as the Featured Image for your post. A Featured Image will give some color and life to your blog post!

Solve Their Problem

Offer a solution to your reader’s problems. Think of the questions that your readers may have and offer a solution. Do you remember what it was like when you started your online business or blog? What problem did you run into, and how did you solve them? If you have this problem, you know that others will, too. Help them out by giving them answers to their questions.

Write Like You Are Talking to a Friend

Keep your voice as if you are talking to one of your friends. Don’t get too technical. Keep your writing easy to read and easy to understand. Don’t throw in a bunch of technical jargon to make yourself look smart. Giving your readers a solution they understand and can use in their world will make you a superstar.

For those of you who have finished this article, I hope these tips will help you keep visitors coming to your site. Making a few changes in the presentation of your writing and the wording of your headlines can entice more readers to go to your site. Keep them there with content that entices them to scroll down the page. The attention span of a visitor today is 8 seconds. Use those 8 seconds to grab your readers and keep them on your page. In the numbers game, the amount of time a person stays on your page is important.

What do you think? What are you doing to entice your readers to stay on your site? Drop me a line; I’d like to hear what you are doing and how it is working.
