Why Start a Blog
February 20, 2022 at 8:54 AM

A blog is a website dedicated to your thoughts. Webster defines a blog as, a website that contains online personal reflections, comments, hyperlinks, videos, and photographs provided by the writer.

Blogging was initially intended to be a personal weblog (journal) where you could write important information about the day or special events. The term “blog” evolved from “weblog.”

Today, many entrepreneurs see great marketing and economic potentials in owning a blog as it is a platform for communicating with a large audience on the internet.

The Benefits of Starting a Blog

Blogging is undeniably of great value to a lot of people and for various reasons. Blogging is not only profitable for business; it also has other professional and financial benefits. Some reasons why you should start blogging are stated below.

Attract an Audience

Blogging gives an opportunity to every blogger to reach several billions of people that use the Internet. This can help to promote your abilities as well as your business. Blogging is a suitable method for attracting an audience because before asking for anything in return, the readers would have been provided with something of value. Most probably, a page captioned “How to Promote Your Blog” will attract more clicks than a page captioned “Buy My Consulting Services?”. When you create a blog that is of value, you can attract an audience and eventually convert them into customers, friends, or partners.

Establish Authority

When you write about important topics on your blog which are relevant to your audience, you become an authority in that aspect. This enhances your professional image. What a business card was in the 1990s is what a blog is to professionals in the 2000s. Your blog is your new business cards.

Builds Relationships and Engagement

Blogging can “warm up” your cold calls and traffic from other sources. If someone receives your cold call, they may be more receptive if they’ve previously read your blog and got value from it. Blogging can convert traffic into leads and leads into customers.

Show Off Your Writing Ability

Blogging helps you become a better writer.

Blogging enables you to be your own media company. You can tell your story the way you want to tell it without being dependent on any source. When you are writing about a topic of your interest, you can decide how to portray a story, what information to include in the story and what to remove. Blogging allows you to ensure that all information included in your blog is genuine.

Meet New People

When you meet people through blogging, they don’t have to just be and remain your “audience.” They can advance to become your friends, colleagues, or business partners. So many people reach out to bloggers directly after reading their write up and some end up becoming their friends or good business partners.

Make Money

An opportunity to make money is open to you when you have a lot of people that read your blog. Many people earn their living from blogging. Though it takes time, once you have enough readers, you will start making some money. As time goes by, your traffic numbers will increase as well as your income.

Google Loves an Updated Blog

When you have a blog on the internet, Google gets interested in your pages and your blog will be listed in Google search. It allows you to start receiving additional visitors from the search engines. Search engines will help to bring new people to your blog that can become your new friends or future business partners.

The reasons why you should start your blog today are quite numerous and you can’t afford not to take the opportunity to start blogging. Concentrate on creating great, well researched articles. Hone your writing skills and you will see rewards to your efforts. I’m not talking about big money payouts but the other kind. The ones that tell you that you are on the right track. The good stuff like comments, likes, and others wanting to write for your site.
