Hi there! I’m Micky Reed, founder of the blog called The Three Snackateers. Together with my sweet friend Brianna and my spicy niece Marcella, we welcome you to our world of snacks! We are three snack lovers who provide fun and entertaining information about snack foods including new products, reviews, trends, news, easy recipes and gift ideas.
1. How long have you been blogging?
I officially published my first post in 2017, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that I decided to get more serious about my blog.
2. Are you a full-time blogger or do you also have another job/career?
I am a part-time blogger with the plan to transition to full-time. My current full-time job is in the marketing field which has been helpful in my blogging venture. But marketing myself is proving more challenging than promoting the features and benefits of a product or service!
3. What got you started into blogging?
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always been drawn to snacks and in particular, sweets. I remember obsessing over the food in cartoons and my sticker book was filled with scratch n’ sniff cakes! I just love the smells, the colors, the flavors, the textures, the creativity, the beauty, the possibilities! I can (and do) spend hours in the grocery store looking at all the new products. Starting a blog that combines my personal interest (snacks) with my professional skills (marketing) seemed like a no-brainer!
4. What is your blog about and how does it help others?
Our blog is all about snacks. We write reviews of new snack products as well as post about interesting and unique snacks we find – like Bakeable Ice Cream Kit Kats from Japan! We create easy recipes that use snacks as an ingredient like circus animal cookie truffles. We also find fun snack related products and gift ideas like foodie subscription boxes and bubble gum dental floss.
Our blog helps people because it’s just good, light-hearted fun. The world can be pretty crazy sometimes. It’s important to make time every day for something that makes you happy. For us, we get a real kick out of snacks, sweets, and treats. We like finding the sweet in a salty world and believe strategically placed sprinkles can brighten even the darkest day!
5. What is working for you and your blog? Why?
Blogging is hard work. I couldn’t do it without the support of my other two Snackateers. I’m very fortunate to have Brianna and Marcella along for this adventure. It really helps to have people in your life to bounce ideas off of. I’ve also been working on building an online support network of other food bloggers.
Consistency, scheduling, and setting goals are also important. Posting and engaging on social channels every day. Weekly blog posts. Checking analytics routinely. Making adjustments based on what’s working and what’s not. The list can seem daunting, so prioritizing the efforts that will get the best and fastest results to meet your goals is key.
6. What did not work out so well for your blog? Why?
I can be my own worst enemy in that I want to do everything myself. I’ve had to learn to let go and allow people to help. I created my own website last year and spent an incredible amount of non-value added time troubleshooting problems. I finally decided to pay an expert to create a new site for me – the best money I’ve ever spent!
7. What tools are you using that you can introduce my readers to?
I highly recommend taking a blogging class. I participated in one and learned about so many helpful tools – too many to list here! However, a self-hosted WordPress site with a highly flexible theme is a must. I also use Tailwind for scheduling on Pinterest which saves a ton of time. Pixlr is a fantastic (and free) online photo editing tool. I also could not function without my Google Drive to stay organized, create documents and share files with my team.
8. What piece of advice would you give to someone who is interested in starting a blog?
Find a topic you are passionate about. The biggest thing that keeps me going is my passion for the subject. I’ve heard people say if you find something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. That is how I feel about my blog. I think our genuine love for snacks comes through in our content and people connect with that.
9. What do you have planned for the future of your website?
We have so many fun things planned! I think I’m most excited about the ‘Sweet Dream Jobs’ series that we will be launching soon. The series will feature interviews with amazing food companies and entrepreneurs and provide a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes. I mean, who wouldn’t want to read about a day in the life of a professional chocolate taster!?
