My Featured Writer Friday guest today is author, Patricia Walters-Fischer.
1. How long have you been blogging?
For about 3-4 years. Prior to that, I wrote articles for multiple websites on entertainment news, the nursing profession, romance writing profession, women’s health, and parenting.
2. Are you a full-time blogger or do you also have another job/career?
Other than being the mom of four, I’m a romance author and write about women’s health and foster/adoption education/information. I also have a monthly book segment on a local morning show and am the host of Readers Entertainment Radio.
3. What got you started into blogging?
There were several things that I wanted to write about regarding subjects that were dear to me. The blogging was an easy way to get the information I had researched out there, especially if I didn’t have an assignment at the time to write about it.
4. What is your blog about and how does it help others?
Honestly, it depends. There are times I post about my segment so people know what books I wrote about and can get the links.
Other times, it’s about a women’s health issue such as recently when I attended the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Conference and worked with Tesaro about getting the word out about early detection and resources. Other times, I write about my writing process, things I’ve had to research, and general “behind the scenes” events that help me get my words to page/screen.
I hope it helps because the information I post, I strive to be as accurate as possible, but if it’s not and someone writes to tell me so, I will go back and make sure my information was accurately stated.
5. What is working for you and your blog? Why?
Photos and videos are always a great way to attract attention. I love great articles and beautiful wording as much as anyone, but having those visual cues really help emphasize the story and is also a great compliment to the story.
6. What did not work out so well for your blog? Why?
Thinking that if I wrote a blog people would find it. You have to let people know you’re out there, otherwise, no one will find you except spam ads for penis enlargement, bitcoins, and weight loss drugs.
7. What piece of advice would you give to someone who is interested in starting a blog?
Set up a schedule and make sure you stick to it as much as you can. Life does happen, so if you have an event coming up, it’s helpful to write and schedule for things to post later. That works great with specific holidays when you don’t want to be posting all day.
Also, get creative with your posts. Think outside the box regarding the subjects.
I love the website Brownielocks.com because it has all the monthly, weekly, and daily observances you can use in your blog post that can help drive traffic and increase conversions.
8. What do you have planned for the future of your website?
I would like to see more interaction from readers, but I think if I would post more consistently, that would help with that.
9. Where can everyone find you?
