Hello, we are James and Nancy O’Leary.   We reside in Massachusetts, USA.  I worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for almost 23 years and Nancy worked in the daycare field for 30 years.

We have three children that are 28, 20 and 18 years of age.  At this point, we are quickly approaching Empty Nesters Status.  Our website is www.lifeoftheemptynesters.com We are the Life Of The Empty Nesters!

1. How long have you been blogging?

We started our blogging website in November 2017.

2. Are you a full-time blogger or do you also have another job/career?

Since July 2017, we have been working as full-time Travel Bloggers.  Upon beginning this new career, I have actually been working more hours per week as a Travel Blogger.

3. What got you started into blogging?

We were both planning on early retirement at 55 years of age.  When Nancy came across a website to start a blog.  She looked at me and said, “How about we start a travel blog, get it up and going so we have something, that is generating an income when we are ready to retire.”  Well, the rest is history!

4. What is your blog about and how does it help others?

We are travel bloggers, Nancy and I share wonderful travel destinations and travel experiences with our followers.  Most of our blogs contain travel tips for both our followers and readers.  The bottom line is we love to share our travel adventures with everyone around the world!

5. What is working for you and your blog? Why?

Nancy and I have found collaborating and sponsorship has worked well for us.  We have found many people around the world who love the Travel niche and they are looking for travel ideas as well as beautiful travel destinations from around the world.  The internet is the advertising wave of the future!

6. What did not work out so well for your blog? Why?

We have found that affiliate marketing was not all it was cracked up to be.  Our profit with affiliate marketing has been minimal.  I have heard of others doing really well with it, but not us.  We will research more about this later about this at a later date.

7. What tools, programs, apps do you use to create your blog/website (tools that you can’t live without)?

Nancy and I started our blog on WordPress with Bluehost.  We have found creating pages on both Twitter and Instagram to be not only useful but valuable.  Pinterest, Facebook and a personal business website to are also great tools to use with our business.  We also use Constant Contact to create an email list for our Life Of The Empty Nesters Weekly Newsletter.

8. What piece of advice would you give to someone who is interested in starting a blog?

If you want a full-time time income, you will need to work full-time plus hours.  You must work on each social platform as a business and not a hobby.  This means we worked 7 days a week when starting up our business in the beginning.  In fact, we have recently cut down our work week to 6 days. No complaints here though, we love to work and travel!!

9. Are you monetizing your website?

Yes, we are monetizing our website.  We have collaborated with several businesses since we started our business.

We started off sharing low-cost budget locations and included some of our past travels.  With travel, we were able to take road trips around our local area and share those locations.  Slowly but surely building up a travel blog resume for our readers to enjoy.

10. What tools are you using to monetizing your website?

As I mentioned above we use sponsorship and collaboration to earn money.  We contact businesses through word of mouth, cold calling, and emails.  We found setting up an excellent email template for business collaboration to be critical.  First impressions are so important!

11. What piece of advice would you give to someone who is interested in monetizing their website/blog?

First, you must find something that you are truly passionate about.  Something that you have some experience of further knowledge about.  This could be something you have invested your past time in and/or have authority in.  An interesting topic that you have knowledge about that you can pass on for others to learn from.

12. What do you have planned for the future of your website?

As previously stated, we are full-time Travel Bloggers.  Every New Year, Nancy and I come up with an exciting and useful Travel Itinerary, where we can include useful travel recommendations and travel tips.

In 2019, we the following adventures planned:  2 Royal Caribbean Cruises taking our followers to Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Haiti, Cozumel Mexico, and Grand Cayman Island.  We take our followers through the state of Pennsylvania.  A trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and another one to Quebec, Canada.
