My Featured Writer Friday guest this week is Kari from BlogLove2018 AND FamilyByChoice among others… Definitely one busy blogger…

Like a lot of the writers/bloggers that I have spoken with, it seems hard for a lot of us to talk about ourselves, let alone be featured.

Don’t get me wrong it is flattering when you are asked to be a part of a feature.  That you have been noticed within your community enough to have generated an interest to know more.

Kari’s daughter, Emma, graduation weekend.

My name is Kari, but I have also been noticed as my nickname Kadee.  Last year I decided I want to begin a blog because my high school daughter was on a path of independence heading to college this fall.  I wanted to begin to prepare her for the next chapter, give her life advice, and have some memories, a place to show her, she is never alone.  I started this blog on

Along the way, I was taken on a completely different path.  I started to meet some incredible people in the blogging and creative community and began to see needs.  Due to my pension for helping people, I could not help myself and began a blogging community @bloglove2018.  I began to start a weekly feature to spotlight bloggers.  It seemed to become popular.

My family has been going through a lot of changes this year and this community has given me a chance to find a new passion and potential next chapter when I was facing being an empty nester.

1. How long have you been blogging?

I really did not post my first blog until around last December. I have always written, and I believe like most, that it seems to take time between the moment you decide you want to blog and the moment you actually post.  There seem to be the fears and doubts that hold us all back.

2. Are you a full-time blogger or do you also have another job/career?

For the past eight years, I have been a homeschool mother, wife and a business owner.  My goal for this summer is to become a more consistent blogger.  I am not sure if that will define me as a full-time blogger.

3. What got you started into blogging?

Besides what I wrote in my introduction, I also believe that I got started blogging because at that time we were struggling to be co-parents with my ex-husband and I wanted to be able to share those experiences with other divorce and blended families.  I was hoping to start a forum where people felt they could come and speak openly and get help or even just to feel they were not alone in this.  This is a very hard and sensitive topic that is not given enough attention.

4. What is your blog about and how does it help others?

The main topic I cover now is promoting other bloggers.  I am always looking for new ways to get all of these amazing, talented people in front of as many people as possible.  I love when each of us supports one another.  We are all online for different reasons.  You never know how you can help someone else or whose attention they need.  It is so much about the connections we are all making.

5. What is working for you and your blog? Why?

I believe that what has been working for me is being a person who people feel is genuine and they know that I mean what I am saying.  I take the time to engage.  I read their blogs.  I comment.  I promote. I am doing all I can to help.  I hope the people that follow me or even just find me for a second, walk away feeling this.

6. What did not work out so well for your blog? Why?

I tried to affiliate market through my blog when I first started.  I do not believe this is really what people want to see in blogs.  I think people want your blogs to be a reflection of you and what you are about.  From my experience, people do not like mixing business and personal on a blog.  You should definitely let your audience know what to expect and never deviate from this on that blog without your audience being well prepared.

7. What tools are you using that you can introduce my readers to?

I set my blog up on  I use HostGator for my hosting.  These two programs have definitely been my must-haves.  They have been easy to use for someone that started a year ago with no tech skills.  Currently, I am in the process of exploring other tools that I can use, but those are mostly for social media.

8. What piece of advice would you give to someone who is interested in starting a blog?

Don’t listen to the voice in your head that is keeping you from either starting or having you feel the need to do multiple rewrites for it to be perfect before you publish.  This voice holds you back from something that can be great.  There are so many supportive people in this community that care enough to give opportunities to help you learn and grow.  It doesn’t have to be perfect if it is coming from you.  However, if your purpose is to make money with your blog right away, I would suggest belonging to the different groups and watch what the successful bloggers or influencers are doing.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

9. What do you have planned for the future of your website/blog?

I want it to continue to grow in the number of bloggers that want to be featured.  I am also beginning to work on other types of weekly features to promote other creative groups.  I hope to help a lot of the new bloggers.

10. Where can everyone find you?
