Blogging has taught me more than knowing how to write.
I’ve been blogging for a long time. And I’ve been writing even longer.
Over time I’ve learned a few things. How to set up a WP site. How to write great content. How to install WP plugins. And how to use social media, but there are 10 other things I learned from blogging that surprised me!
And I can guarantee that they are more important than any of those listed above.
- It won’t always be perfect. I’ve had my share of published mistakes.
- I won’t always write a great post. Oh, yeah. I’ve written some flops. Here’s one and here’s another.
- I will post stuff with spelling mistakes and grammar errors. See point number one.
- Other people will like my stuff and they will share it with others or they will leave comments on my post.
That’s fun. It really builds confidence.
- It’s not as hard as I originally thought it would be. True dat…
- I feel that my writing has improved a billion percent. Practice really does make perfect.
Well almost perfect, see point number one.
- I am a good writer. Yes. And I get better with every blog post.
-
Generating blogging ideas becomes easier every day.
Generating ideas is really not that hard. Once I get the ball rolling, the blog ideas pop off of the screen.
If you get stuck, here’s a post on repurposing old content.
- I will run across haters. And Yes, they probably live in their mother’s basement with nothing better to do than to hate.
Ignore them.
- There are plenty of people out there that are willing to help. All you have to do is ask. And I’m here to help you in your blogging journey. Through my newsletter, through my eBook, through the content on my blog, and my social media interactions, I hope to give you the information that you need so you can continue down your blogging path to success.
Here’s an extra added bonus tip.
You cannot judge the popularity of your post until it is finally published. You can take that one to the bank!!!!!
I’ve had posts that I thought were works of art. Post that my grandkids would read about in some writing class. But they turned out so-so and kind of a flop.
I’ve had posts that I thought were absolute flops. But much to my surprise, I get all kinds of thank yous for the post. So you never know how popular your post will be until you finally hit the publish button. My advice is to always write as if this post is your best post ever. Doing that, you can’t go wrong.
Blogging is fun and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s something that I look forward to and think about doing EVERY day. But, it’s not as easy as it looks, it takes drive and determination to become a successful blogger.
No one does this overnight.
So keep at it. Keep your pen to the paper and keep writing. I’m sure in just a couple short months, you’ll have your own Top 10 Things that you learned from blogging. If so, share the link with me and I’ll add a special mention in a blog post.
If you like this post (or if you didn’t like it) or if there is a topic that you’d like me to cover, then drop me a note in the comments section. I reply to every comment.
Be sure to follow me on Twitter or Instagram for members only content.
As always, to your success.

Your blog is so helpful Dan, nice to know even the best bloggers have had flops & make mistakes 😊
Oh yeah, I’ve made a ton of mistakes… and that’s what my website is about, getting you from a blank screen to a published post with the least amount of hassles. You get to learn from MY mistakes.
Dan
I never tell you enough that I appreciate you and your content and advice Dan. Thanks for everything you have done to support us all on Twitter.
Wow!! Thank you very much.
Since day one, all of my posts have been about helping other bloggers and it will stay that way. I see no reason why we all can’t succeed.
Thank again!!
Dan
Felt like, I really needed to read this!
Being fairly new to blogging and seeing these amazing bloggers with perfect posts and pictures. I was trying to get there directly. But now I realize that even they stuttered at some point!
Thanks for stopping in and I’m glad you found the post helpful!!
Oh, yeah… we all had clunkers. You can’t start at the top and besides, it’s a fun journey learning new things and seeing our progress over time.
Dan
This is so true Dan!! I particularly agree with the grey support you receive and also how you cannot tell how good your blog will be and how it will be received by others
Thanks for sharing
Mike
Hello Michael
That’s the fun part about blogging. You always try to put out the best content possible. And when it becomes a hit, that makes it all the better.
Dan
Great information! Yes blogging does take a lot of determination and hard work for sure! 😁
Thank you for stopping by. Yes, you have to keep your eyes on the prize to finally get somewhere.
You have to remember, this is a marathon not a sprint.

Glad to know not just newbies have big flops!

Dan,
Incredible work as always on this post! Thanks for providing some assurance for blogging. It can definitely be discouraging sometimes, but as you mention everyone makes mistakes and it’s just part of the writing world. Love reading all your fantastic pieces!
Thank you. I’m glad you are enjoying my site.
Blogging is fun but with us being human, it won’t be perfect. I remember putting mistakes out there and just panicking over a mistake. I’ve made enough, that I just don’t worry about it anymore…
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Hi Dan,
I just read your comment on Darleen Prangue’s blog so decided to come by your site. I resonate with the things you’ve learned over the years from blogging. At first, you might not notice it, but as time goes by you realize that your writing has improved dramatically.
I have also posted articles containing spelling errors only to edit them later and republish. This makes us human, we are bound to make mistakes.
Thanks for sharing Dan.
Isn’t that the truth!! No matter how hard we try, there’s always something.
You can have the BEST spellchecker and grammar checker, but they won’t catch everything. It’s just bound to happen.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
