The Simple Solution to Grow Your Following

March 30, 2014 4 Comments

I’ve had several people tell me that they are still struggling to gain followers for their blog. So, today I’m going to give you an easy to use, two step process to grow your following on Twitter. Why Titter, you ask? The answer is easy, Twitter is the best tool out there for bloggers. Hands down. Follow this simple strategy and you will watch your following grow.

Step One, Analyze Your Current Followers

Analyze your current followers to maximize the effectiveness of your tweets.

Tweriod is an online site that analyzes your followers Twitter activity and gives you the times when they are most active. The graph shows the number of users in the Y-axis and the time of day in the X-axis. Concentrate your tweets during the times they are most active.

Tweriod_ScreenShot2In the example graphs above, concentrate your tweets during the times:
Sunday – 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM then again between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
Monday – 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM then again between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

There are many different philosophies on the lifespan of a tweet. With thousands of tweets scrolling by every second, it’s really hard to tell. My general rule is that a tweet does not live very long, maybe a few minutes. So, the more you tweet, the better your chances are that someone will read your tweet. Put the odds in your favor by tweeting more often.
Another question I get is how often should I tweet? With the lifespan only being a few minutes, posting every 15 minutes would be a good start. Just make sure you hit it during the times that your readers are active. As your following grows, expand your tweets to fill the full 24 hours.

Step Two, Build Your Following

Blogging is not like the movie A Field of Dreams. If you write it, they will not necessarily come. You have to work to build your blog and to build your following.
Here is an easy and simple way to grow your following.

  • Use the Twitter search bar to search for key words that are in your niche, such as, blogger, writer, or even pet care.
  • In the search results window, scroll down until you see the PEOPLE section. Click on AND MORE.
  • Read the bios then click on the follow button of users that match your criteria.

Yes, it is that easy and that simple to grow your following. All you have to do is be proactive and be there when your followers are online. Check out Tweriod to see when your followers are most active. Then send your tweets when they are online, but don’t stop there. Use the Twitter search feature to find new followers that are in your niche. Then simply click on the little FOLLOW button. Most of the time they will follow you back. Just be careful to not become spammy or to carried away on gaining new followers.
