How to Attract Visitors and Keep Them Coming Back For More

February 2, 2014 2 Comments

The average reader will stay at your site for eight seconds. That does not give you a lot of time to catch your reader’s attention and keep them on your page.

You have 8 seconds to grab your readers attention.

You have 8 seconds to grab your readers attention. Make those 8 seconds count!

Eight seconds is approximately the amount of time that it took you to read those first two sentences. That doesn’t give you much time, so what can you do to keep your visitors on your site? In the website numbers game, it’s all about the time a person stays on your site and not the amount of visitors to your site. An engaged or entertained reader will come back for more.

First, a couple fun facts from StatsticBrain.com
– The average attention span of a person in the year 2000, 12 seconds.
– The average attention span of a goldfish, 9 seconds.
– The average attention span of your reader today, just 8 seconds.

How can you make those 8 seconds count?

Create Great Content
Developing good content is not an option anymore. There are millions of people on the web creating good content, you need to do better and create GREAT content. Your content should flow and be easy to read. There are many content styles that you can use such as a Problem Solution post, a How To post or a Top 10 List.

Use Images in Your Post
Everyone likes to look at a nice picture. Just look at the popularity of sites such as Pinterest and Instagram. SocialMediaToday.com states that 47% of all shared content on social media are images. Using images in your post will draw your reader’s eye to content below the title or headline, giving them a reason to keep scrolling down the page.

Engage Your Readers
As you come to the end of your post; engage your readers with a question or a call to action. Entice them into doing more after they have finished reading your article. Ask them a question pertaining to your post. Something like, “Did you have this problem? What did you do to resolve it?” Or, ask your readers to hit one of the social sharing buttons to share your post with their friends. Don’t have social buttons on your site? Check out the plugins section on WordPress.org.

For those of you that left reading this post, I hope these tips help you to keep your visitors on your page. Develop great content and enticing headlines to draw your reader in. Remember you have just eight seconds to grab their attention. Make those eight seconds count.

Hello Ankit, thanks for stopping by.
I think Twitter is one of the best tools out there for bloggers. My suggestion is to start following others on Twitter. Work on building your following.
What is your blog about? Look to see if there are social sharing sites such as bizsugar.com or blokube.com.
      I hope this helps.

      Dan
